My Transformative Journey at the Everything Food Conference: Unlocking Food Blogging Success in Salt Lake City
Attending my first-ever food blogger conference was an experience that has profoundly reshaped my perspective and trajectory. Just last week, I had the privilege of immersing myself in the vibrant atmosphere of the Everything Food Conference, and I can confidently say that my life, both personally and professionally, will never be the same. This event stands out as the absolute highlight of my year, a truly transformative journey that exceeded all expectations. From the exquisite culinary offerings to the groundbreaking workshops and invaluable networking opportunities, every aspect of the conference was nothing short of life-changing.
Join me as I take you on a step-by-step recount of my incredible adventure at the Everything Food Conference, held in the picturesque city of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Embarking on a Culinary Journey: Travel to Salt Lake City
The image above captures a moment of pure anticipation – my sneakers, poised at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, ready to carry me to Utah. The excitement for this trip was palpable, fueled by countless glowing recommendations from peers and mentors about the Everything Food Conference. I had heard so many amazing things, with many hailing it as the premier gathering for food bloggers.
The prospect of learning from some of my favorite bloggers and YouTube personalities, who were scheduled to speak, further intensified my eagerness. This wasn’t just a trip; it was a pilgrimage to a hub of culinary creativity and digital marketing expertise.

Upon my arrival in Utah, I was immediately struck by the breathtaking natural beauty surrounding Salt Lake City. The landscape was dotted with an abundance of towering mountains! My initial reaction was to exclaim, “I like the hills!” only to be corrected emphatically by my Uber driver, who jovially replied, “Those are not hills, those are mountains!” It was a humorous moment that perfectly encapsulated the awe-inspiring scale of the scenery.
Perhaps my perception was skewed by childhood memories of Mount Fako in Buea, Cameroon, a truly colossal peak where I spent a significant portion of my youth. While these mountains appeared smaller in comparison, their sheer number and omnipresence were captivating. I could spot majestic peaks from nearly every vantage point in the city, a stark and beautiful contrast to my home state of Minnesota, which is renowned not for mountains, but for its vast network of lakes. Indeed, Minnesota proudly bears the moniker “land of ten thousand lakes,” a testament to its unique geography. The dramatic change in landscape added another layer of excitement to my conference experience, reminding me of the diverse beauty our world holds.
Before diving headfirst into the conference activities, I couldn’t resist capturing a moment of personal excitement with a selfie in my hotel room.

That evening, on the eve of the official conference, I had the pleasure of joining a group of seven fellow food bloggers for dinner. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with individuals who shared my passion and professional endeavors. We exchanged stories, tips, and laughter, laying the groundwork for friendships and potential collaborations. It was truly inspiring to be surrounded by such a vibrant community, even if we regrettably forgot to snap a picture to commemorate the occasion.
Forging Connections: Speed Networking with Brands
The following day marked a pivotal moment in my pre-conference schedule: speed networking with various brands. This segment of the conference is akin to a rapid-fire job interview, specifically tailored for food bloggers seeking strategic partnerships and collaborations. Recognizing the immense value of these interactions, I dedicated considerable time to preparation. I delved deep into understanding each brand’s mission and products, ensuring my business cards were perfectly printed and organized, and meticulously rehearsing my pitches to convey my unique value proposition effectively. This preparation was crucial for making a memorable impression and setting the stage for future collaborations.

I engaged in conversations with many exceptional brands, exploring exciting possibilities for content creation and partnership. The connections made during these sessions are invaluable for the growth of any food blog or YouTube channel, and I’m thrilled at the prospect of sharing some of these collaborative projects with you on my blog and/or YouTube channel in the near future. By the end of this intensive networking day, I was utterly exhausted, but filled with a profound sense of accomplishment and optimism for the opportunities ahead.
The Everything Food Conference 2018 Kicks Off!
It wasn’t until Thursday that the Everything Food Conference 2018 officially commenced, marking the true beginning of this immersive experience. The energy that permeated the main hall at the opening ceremony was absolutely electric. Hip-hop music pulsated through the speakers, accompanied by enthusiastic cheers and an undeniable buzz of excitement from hundreds of attendees. It was an epic start to any conference I’ve ever witnessed, and what struck me most was the sheer volume of food bloggers gathered under one roof – a testament to the thriving and passionate community we are a part of. While the majority hailed from various corners of the United States, it was inspiring to see participants who had traveled from as far as Australia and Dubai, all united by their passion for food blogging.
For three full days, the conference delivered a robust program filled with insightful workshops, inspiring keynote speeches from industry leaders, and abundant opportunities for continued networking. Each element was meticulously designed to empower attendees, offering a blend of practical skills, strategic thinking, and community building that is crucial for success in the dynamic world of food media.
Immersive Workshops and Inspirational Speakers: Key to Blogging Success
The conference workshops were undoubtedly one of my favorite aspects, offering a wealth of knowledge across a diverse range of topics vital for food bloggers. Sessions covered everything from advanced SEO strategies and mastering food videography to sophisticated photo editing techniques and effective social media engagement. These workshops were not just theoretical; they provided actionable insights and practical tools designed to elevate our content and reach. Learning how to optimize blog posts for search engines, craft engaging video recipes, and enhance visual storytelling through photography are indispensable skills for thriving in today’s digital landscape.
My absolute favorite workshop was led by the brilliant Nagi Maehashi of the globally acclaimed food blog, Recipe Tin Eats. Nagi shared her incredible journey and the strategic tips that propelled her blog to an astounding 7 million page views. Her presentation was a masterclass in transparency and motivation. She openly discussed her content creation process, audience engagement strategies, and the consistent effort required to achieve such phenomenal growth. Her honesty and passion were incredibly inspiring, offering tangible lessons that I immediately wanted to implement.

As you can see from our picture together, Nagi exudes a wonderfully fun and approachable personality, making her insights even more engaging.
Another workshop that captivated my attention focused on strategies for growing a successful YouTube channel. This session was particularly exciting because all the speakers were YouTubers whose work I admire and regularly follow. The panel included Tatyana Nesteruk of Tatyana’s Everyday Food, Beth Le Manach of Entertaining with Beth, Sara Lynn Cauchon of The Domestic Geek, and Joanne of Fifteen Spatulas. Their collective wisdom on video production, audience engagement, content planning, and monetization for food-focused channels was invaluable. Learning directly from these seasoned creators offered a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to build a thriving presence on YouTube, which is an increasingly important platform for food bloggers.

I had the wonderful opportunity to capture a moment with Tatyana, who proved to be as sweet and genuine in person as she appears in her videos. Her advice on building authentic connections with an audience truly resonated with me.

Similarly, interacting with Beth Le Manach was a highlight. The depth of wisdom she shared regarding creating engaging content and building a successful brand was truly inspiring and immensely helpful.

Building Meaningful Connections: My Conference Highlights
Beyond the structured learning, perhaps the greatest highlight of the Everything Food Conference was the invaluable time I spent with my dear friend, Imma from Immaculate Bites. Imma and I have been communicating by phone for quite some time, but finally being able to connect with her in person was an extraordinary experience. Her generosity in sharing her insights on blog growth, content strategy, and community building was unparalleled. She is an absolute expert in the field, and her mentorship has been, and continues to be, profoundly impactful on my own blogging journey. These personal connections, fostering genuine support and shared learning, are truly what make conferences like this indispensable.

It was also incredibly fulfilling to meet and connect with several other Black Food Bloggers. These interactions created a powerful sense of community and solidarity, reinforcing the importance of diverse voices and perspectives within the food blogging sphere. Sharing experiences and challenges with a supportive group fostered a feeling of belonging and mutual encouragement.

A Feast for the Senses: Culinary Delights at the Conference
And now, let’s talk about the food! It was, after all, a food blogger conference, and the organizers certainly delivered on the culinary front. The conference offered an array of delectable options, allowing attendees to explore new flavors and cuisines. One memorable experience was trying Korean cuisine for the very first time. I savored delicate glass noodles and tender chicken, generously topped with a vibrant spicy mayo and another intriguing sauce whose name, regrettably, now escapes me.

Initially, I hesitated to try the mystery sauce, unsure if its taste would appeal to me. However, the man serving the sauces, with a mischievous grin, playfully challenged me, asking, “Are you crazy? This sauce is so good!” His enthusiasm was infectious, and I decided to take his recommendation. He was absolutely right; the sauce was indeed delicious, adding another layer of depth and flavor to the dish. This moment highlighted the joy of culinary exploration and trusting the experts.
One evening, we were treated to an epic, exquisitely prepared dinner that showcased the conference’s commitment to exceptional food experiences.

The watermelon fruit bowls were a delightful and refreshing touch, showcasing both creativity and fresh ingredients.

For my main course, I chose the salmon, which was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful – a true culinary highlight.

The carefully curated menu reflected a commitment to quality and variety, enhancing the overall dining experience for all attendees.
